soul searcher.

By kelly - February 29th, 2012 - 3 Comments

This is me and the clouds around my head these days.

Sometimes when you take a step back from your life you find truths you didn’t even know you were trying to deny.

Like the fact, that time is moving fast. And always will.

You’re in the real world now. You have to grade yourself.

You haven’t been taking care of those relationships you hold dear. You’ve missed too many inside jokes.

You haven’t been writing. You really need to start writing.

You have absolutely no idea what it is you want to do with your life.

You wonder what you are passionate about. Then wonder how you can survive off of those passions.

You don’t want lose focus on what counts.

To say the least, I’ve been soul searching.

I have no explanation of when this process will end.

These past few weeks and my lack of blogging has been strangely freeing.

Freeing enough to tell me that  I’m ready to try something new.

Blogger. A title I’ve enjoyed trying and learning from these past 10 months.

I’ve learned tons about producing content and keeping deadlines.

I’ve taken a billion – no –  a gazillion photos. And some of them, I am truly proud of and inspired by.

I’ve learned so much about myself.

About those posts that were just posts because I had to post.

About those posts that I knew might actually resonate with someone, anyone. Which is all I’ve ever wanted.

But I know, “Nothing is permanent.”

A statement that makes me feel safe to come and go as I please in this world.

Who will I try next?

(No clue.)

That’s the beauty of it.

Ask yourself – What are you doing now? What would you like to try next?

Truth is, the path to positive has always been something that’s inside of me.

It’s inside of you too.

It’s a choice.

To choose beautiful thoughts &  know when to shine through the rain.

I love you more than coffee.

By kelly - February 14th, 2012 - 2 Comments

{Coffee – Joe’s V-day Card – Joe}

Happy Valentine’s Day to my cup of Joe.

With that being said, although it’s a tight one.

Of course, I love you more than a few coffee beans.

That still makes you one lucky, lucky guy.

Because coffee and I go way BACK.

Thanks for knowing exactly how I take mine.

Because it really is the small things in life.

Oh, and thanks for loving me.

Lately.

By kelly - February 7th, 2012 - 1 Comment

*I’ve been making photobooks, key lime pie and framing some big photographs of the John Lennon Wall. To top off the cherry I ended up cracking the corner of my new matted frame and accidentally sticking the glove of my oven mitt into the pie while rearranging it in oven. These instances make me wonder if there even is a home maker inside of me.

*My new goggles! A purchase that I’d been mulling over and finally said if I’m thinking about them so much then I must really want them. Swipe and Swipe.

* Not my tire. But the result of one of the funniest car rides that I have been in in a while. No one was hurt but everyone’s stomachs hurt from laughing so hard. Got to love girl road trips.

*My new hobby. I’ve been studying to get certified to teach aerobics classes. Test is coming up so I’ve been in crunch mode.

Sorry for my tardiness but I promise my time has been well spent enjoying life as opposed to upholding deadlines. I’ve been finding this phenomenon is something I need to make sure to do more of.

Happy Eater

By kelly - February 2nd, 2012 - 1 Comment

I recently started reading Eat Your Way to Happiness by Elizabeth Somer on my way home from the train.

And by on my way home from the train, I mean on my way to the gym.

It’s great motivation to actually get my butt to the gym.

Especially, when you have those weeks where you literally go back and forth the whole way home.

I don’t want to go. I’m going.

It’s no question – you are going.

That’s what I love about motivational books.

They give you that extra push that gets you where you are going.

This book has helped me to really re-examine the foods I have been eating.

It draws on the connection between how certain foods keep you working hard and staying focused.

While other foods make you crash before lunch. This makes you crabby and unpleasant to be around.

I have been making sure to keep a food diary these past two weeks. And I’ve been writing down EVERYTHING.

It can be a realization for how many calories I can eat on certain days.

But now that I’m keeping track I feel really good.

Probably because I have been trying to EAT really good.

It’s all connected! You really are what you eat.

pretend like it’s the weekend.

By kelly - January 30th, 2012 - 1 Comment

I’ve always felt a connection to Jack Johnson’s “Banana Pancakes.”

Probably because I take a liking to sleeping in,

Waking up slow,

Banana pancakes,

And pretending like it’s the weekend.

I also have loved this photograph since I took it while staying at hotel with Joe in Nashville.

Just the meaning of it screams vacation, sleeping until noon and waking up slow.

Now this crafty little piece is hanging above my bed as a reminder of treating myself well and maybe even taking that extra snooze.

The Optimist’s Creed

By: Christian D. Larson

To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.

To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.

To make all of your friends feel that there is something worthwhile in them.

To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.

To think only of the best, to work only for the best and to expect only the best.

To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.

To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.

To wear a cheerful expression at all times and give a smile to every living creature you meet.

To give so much time to improving yourself that you have no time to criticize others.

To be too large for worry, to noble for anger, too strong for fear, and to happy to permit the presence of trouble.

To think well of yourself and to proclaim this fact to the world, not in a loud word, but in great deeds.

To live in faith that the whole world is on your side, so long as you are true to the best that is in you.

This is placed neatly in the back of my dream board. I can’t tell you how much reading it makes me want to try to be a better person everyday. All it takes sometimes is a little bit of motivation.

spinach artichoke dip

By kelly - January 26th, 2012 - 1 Comment

It was a girl’s dip night at my house on Friday.

It only ended up being Bridge & I making dips but any excuse to talk and eat was easy enough for us.

At first, I’d have to admit I was kind of intimidated by this dip.

Who knows why, because it is seriously so easy.

All you need to do is mix together (in no particular order):

8 oz of cream cheese (melted a bit in the microwave)

A dollop of sour cream

A dollop of mayo

Chopped Spinach (as much as you want really)

Chopped Artichoke (about one can)

A bit of Garlic Salt

Mozzarella Cheese on top

I was pretty happy with how it came out. We found that letting it sit for a little bit (along with Bridge’s taco dip) almost made them taste better.

So, we let them sit.

And in the end – we ate TOO much!

Stomach aches for all. And for all a good night.

what’s in the bag?

By kelly - January 25th, 2012 - 3 Comments

When it comes to living productively,

I know that routine is super important.

Really important to me, that is.

This bag enlists all of my commuter essentials:

Borders E-reader: I love to read and it makes the trip faster. This is like a long lost friend. All my books in one place!

My new Sak wallet: It holds tons of important items – mostly my Monthly train pass. A must.

To-do list :I also have one on my iPhone but sometimes it’s better to just write one out.

Winter Essentials: Now that it’s winter I feel like I need so many more things, such as gloves, ear muffs, a scarf, chapstick.

Somethings to chew on: Mints, gum, suckers. Just in case you get a sugar craving!

The works.

The commuter life is all about comfort and convenience!

So don’t skimp on the essentials.

Oh yeah, and don’t forget your lunch and your trusty coffee mug.

Attack of the nerds.

By kelly - January 23rd, 2012 - 1 Comment

Yep.

I’m pretty much a self-proclaimed nerd.

It really comes with the territory of loving to read.

Also, feeling the need to research and observe my surroundings.

Maybe even write a thesis if something really good comes along.

So when I saw this shirt, it was somewhat of an A-Ha moment.

Because nerds really do need love too!

Well I suppose everyone really needs love.

What are your nerdy qualities?

If you have some, I suggest running out to Target to pick up a Tee to support your nerd habits!

Day Dreaming: Part 9

By kelly - January 20th, 2012 - 1 Comment

This board is definitely the place where I dream.

But in many ways, this blog is one of the biggest ways I can dream.

Where I  can express.

It pushes me to find inspiration in my life, which sometimes doesn’t seem that easy.

It pushes me to look harder.

To get up and create something.

Even if those something’s are found in photographs of beautiful moments.
